Economic History Society Internships at The British Museum

The British Museum and the Economic History Society are delighted to offer a three-month paid internship in the Department of Coins and Medals at the British Museum. The internship is open to postgraduate students, and early-career researchers in economic history, broadly defined. The aim of this internship is to give the intern experience of the work of the Museum, and to enable them to apply their academic expertise in working with a relevant area of the Museum collection.

The British Museum houses one of the world’s great collections of coins and medals, an internationally-important numismatic library, and a team of specialists whose expertise covers the history of money and medals throughout the world.

The collection ranges from the first coins made in Lydia (modern Turkey) and China, to the most recent credit cards and new technologies of money, providing a unique view on the social, economic, political and artistic history of the world through its money and medals.

The successful applicant will receive a bursary to cover their expenses, which will be £1000 per month for a full-time internship (subject to appropriate deductions). Applications for a part-time internship are also welcome, and will receive a pro rata bursary.
